Bring your parents or grandparents to Canada for an extended period of time.

The Super Visa is a special long-term visitor visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to come to Canada for extended stays. Unlike a regular visitor visa, which typically allows stays of up to six months, a Super Visa lets eligible family members stay in Canada for up to five years at a time, with the visa itself valid for up to ten years.
This makes it an excellent option for families who want to spend more meaningful time together without constantly renewing their status.
Who Can Apply for a Super Visa?
To qualify, the applicant must:
Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Be admissible to Canada (health, security, etc.)
Meet medical exam requirements
Not have dependents included in the application (only the parent/grandparent can apply)
The child or grandchild in Canada must also:
Provide a written invitation letter
Prove household income meets the Low-Income Cut-Off (LICO) based on family size
Agree to support the parent or grandparent financially during their stay
Health Insurance Requirement
A key requirement is medical insurance. Applicants must have:
Private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company (or one approved abroad)
Coverage of at least $100,000
Valid for a minimum of one year
Proof the insurance has been paid (quotes are not accepted)
This ensures that visitors have access to medical care without relying on provincial healthcare systems.
Why Choose a Super Visa?
Longer stays (up to 5 years per entry)
Multiple entries over up to 10 years
Family connection without repeated extension applications
For families separated by borders, the Super Visa offers stability, flexibility, and peace of mind.
